The General Secretary
Jan J. Grote is Professor in ENT of the University of Leiden, the Netherlands since 25 years. He has published 200 papers in International journals and several chapters in leading books on Otolgoy and Skull base Surgery and books on Biomaterials. He introduced hydroxyapatite in otology and his research is dedicated to the pathogenesis of chronic otitis media.
He has been active in IFOS since 1993 as European Secretary. He stimulted the contacts between middle European countries and former Russian States and the Western European countries after the fall of the wall. He took over as General Secretary from Peter Alberti in London in 2001 during the difficult period of the planned 17th World Congress in Cairo, Egypt, which had to be postponed due to 9/11. The World Congress was a scucess one year later. The office of the General Secretary is based in the Netherlands
