19th Annual Course on the Multidisciplinary Management of Controversies in Thyroid and Parathyroid Diseases
This 4-day course combines didactic and laboratory sessions and offers the opportunity to closely interact with world experts from a variety of disciplines. The curriculum will cover both medical and surgical aspects of the treatment of benign and malignant diseases affecting these organs, and provide an appreciation of the challenges faced by clinicians.
Highly controversial topics will be presented with case presentations utilized to elicit current opinion on their management.
Hands-on laboratories will be offered on the following topics:
1) Minimally Invasive Video-Assisted Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery
A full-day, hands-on laboratory for surgeons providing the opportunity to learn the techniques of:
video-assisted minimally invasive thyroid and parathyroid surgery
vocal cord monitoring
techniques for local anesthesia in thyroid and parathyroid surgery
principles of harmonic technology and its application to thyroid and parathyroid surgery.
2) Ultrasonography of the Neck
A half-day laboratory session combining lectures and hands-on experience in using ultrasound on live patient volunteers to evaluate the thyroid, parathyroid and lymph nodes of the neck, with the focus on thyroid nodules, parathyroid localization, and ultrasound guided thyroid biopsy and evaluation of cervical lymph nodes.
